July 5th: Farm-to-Table Benefit Dinner Served by Local Students Between Festival Events

Jun 20, 2009

On Sunday afternoon, July 5, between the performances of The Turn of the Screw and The Beggars Opera (roughly 5-7pm), students from the Rappahannock County Public Schools will serve a buffet dinner at our Festival Café on Castleton Farms. Open-air, covered seating is available, and there is additional picnic space on the adjacent lawns.

Purchases of food and drinks that evening will benefit the Farm-to-Table program, a partnership between Headwaters, an educational foundation in Rappahannock County, and the Rappahannock County Public Schools.  The mission of this hands-on program is to cultivate students in both elementary and high school to be good stewards of the earth through classroom study of horticulture, cultivation of school gardens, and experience at local organic farms.

Through Farm-to-Table, students gain an appreciation of Rappahannock County’s agrarian culture, and good food!  The program helps to preserve farming techniques and traditions, reinforce the ethic of conservation, introduce land-friendly career options, and gives students an appreciation of just how those vegetables get to the table.
