All Performances are in the Theatre House at Castleton Farms
The premier jazz ensemble of the United States Army brings Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, remarkable for its reimagining of the iconic ballet suite. Filling out the program is Stan Kenton's "A Merry Christmas", including the classic Christmas songs scored for an all brass big band, with mellophoniums (a straight-bell French horn) replacing saxophones. In typical Kentonesque fashion, what is lacking in subtly, it makes up for in power. These two works represent a stark contrast in big band jazz - both written and recorded by jazz giants during the same year, but could not be more different in their musical sensibility.
This will be a splendid evening to celebrate the holidays. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT
