Castleton Alive is the community education and engagement branch of the Castleton Festival. Through on- and off-campus programming, Castleton Alive aims to engage students through music. The goal of the program is not merely to stimulate and educate aspiring musicians, but to inspire all students to develop a love for culture and the arts. During the 2015 summer Festival Season, Castleton Alive presented seven off-campus programs that reached over 300 audience members from local elementary schools, high schools, assisted living facilities and local businesses. Over 350 local students participated in the on-campus events; aspiring instrumentalists played alongside the Castleton Festival Orchestra in a special rehearsal of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, attended dress rehearsals and performances, and participated in masterclasses and panel discussions with industry professionals.
