A Seminar for Young Conductors
Ten conducting fellows to be chosen by Maestro Maazel.DATE
June 9 to July 20, 2014
Three Courses will define this seminar:
How to Conduct an Opera (Lorin Maazel's 1984) and accompany soloists
How to Conduct a 20th Century Masterpiece (Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring)
The Art of Interpretation (Beethoven's Missa Solemnis)
Three Conducting Fellows will be given on occasion conducting assignments that involve orchestra and/or chorus, and/or soloists or any combination thereof.
Seven Conducting Associate Fellows will be given similar opportunities but to a lesser degree at the discretion of Maestro Maazel.
$8,500 for Conducting Fellows : includes instruction, room and board
$7,500 for Conducting Associate Fellows : includes instruction, room and board
The applicants must submit the following: a video recording of their conducting with an orchestra (student, amateur, professional), Resume/CV and two letters of recommendation.
Applicants must be between 18-33 years of age.
Selected applicants will have an interview with Maestro Maazel (in English, German, Italian or French) (to take place via SKYPE or live in Munich) during which the candidate must demonstrate a solid knowledge of orchestral instruments (for example: range of the instruments, string instrument harmonics, etc) and basic knowledge of symphonic and operatic repertoire.
