Miho Hazama Jazz Orchestra
Duke Ellington’s timeless Nutcracker Suite, fashioned after the Tchaikovsky masterpiece, returns to Castleton in Performance led by award winning composer/conductor Miho Hazama with her 16 piece Jazz Orchestra. Ms. Hazama and the ensemble will also present her own compositions that have attracted the attention of the international press.
The Tokyo born composer ranks as one of New York’s most astounding young talents, lauded in Downbeat as one of “25 for the Future”. Her work with the New York Jazzharmonic and members of the New York City Ballet has placed her firmly on the world stage. As the 2015 recipient of the BMI Charlie Parker Composition Prize, Miho developed her signature ensemble “m_unit with albums on Universal Music Japan/ Sunnyside Records. Miho has written for and expertly showcased the abilities of artists including Joshua Redman, Stefon Harris, and Steve Wilson, to name a few. Critics and music fans alike have praised the recordings and performances, and Miho has been featured in such influential publications as Downbeat, JazzTimes, NPR, the New York Times, CD Journal and many more.
