The Seminar is the centerpiece of the Castleton Festival designed to offer one of the broadest preparations for pre-professional singers available in the U.S. today. This training program combines education with the opportunity to build the student’s resume through performed and covered roles. Each of the members of the Seminar is guaranteed to appear in our mainstage opera productions, either as a member of the ensemble or in comprimario or cover roles. The Seminar consists of a seven-week session with vocal training, classes in European languages, acting and performance skills, monologue studies, Alexander Technique, dance, stage combat, career preparation, audition techniques, digital marketing, and multiple performance opportunities.
Notable alumni include John Overholt, Davone Tines, Melissa Chávez, and Kira Dills-DeSurra,
Previous faculty have included such luminaries as Denyce Graves, Carol Vaness, James Morris, Richard Stilwell, Neil Shicoff, Alessandra Marc, Eduardo Chama, and Richard Leech.
The Castleton Festival has been one of the most valuable experiences of my career. It is an opportunity to be a part of world class productions, be surrounded by some of the finest professionals and voices in the world, but all the while having the comfort of being home. I had never experienced in a training program the kind of personalized nurture that Castleton doles out so lovingly. This breed of work breaks down walls we create as performers, and births artists that are the industry standard time and time again.
